Mapping the Human Element: Analysis of Human Factors in Offshore Wind Incidents

Learning from incidents can help to enhance safety and performance. Human factors in incident investigation is a recognised safety management approach across sectors, facilitating organisational learning. Our previous projects have identified the key human factors influencing wind workers during operations and maintenance activities, yet it is unclear how they are involved in wind incidents.

In collaboration with G+, the offshore wind health and safety organisation, this study examines the role of human factors in offshore wind incidents. With access to the global offshore wind incident database provided by G+, the HF-Wind framework will be used as a preliminary coding tool with a feasibility study ongoing.

Project outcomes can be used to inform incident reporting practices, training interventions, and safety guidelines.
